We are pleased to announce that the Board of Safe Steps has appointed Dr Chelsea Tobin as our new CEO.

Chelsea has a background  in psychology, commerce, strategy, and research with a demonstrated commitment to social justice and gender equality. She brings extensive knowledge and experience in leading large organisations in the community and corporate sectors, working to make communities stronger through the innovative design and delivery of services that build supportive, resilient, and more inclusive practices.

Chelsea comes to Safe Steps directly from MacKillop Family Services, with a wealth of experience leading and empowering multidisciplinary teams to deliver large scale socially and commercially impactful projects in the community.

She most recently led The MacKillop Institute, which empowers organisations with evidence-informed programs and services that promote wellbeing, resilience, and learning, based on MacKillop Family Services’ deep understanding of the impacts of adversity, change, loss, grief, and trauma.

This included the scaling up and delivery of evidence-based programs across the education, out of home care, community services, corporate sectors, and natural disaster recovery. Previous experience has included working as a company director and director of strategy at PwC.

Chelsea is strongly committed to building on the organisation’s accomplishments achieved under our previous CEO, Rita Butera, and in working together with all of our sector partners and colleagues to improve services and outcomes of victim survivors of family and domestic violence.

Please join us in welcoming Chelsea as the new CEO at Safe Steps where she will join the team on the 15th August 2022.
