Safe Steps is Victoria’s 24/7 family violence crisis service.

It is a phone-based service. Our crisis line is answered by highly trained, experienced and compassionate Family Violence Crisis Specialists.

When is Safe Steps open?

Safe Steps is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

You can call us at any time of day or night on 1800 015 188.

Who can call Safe Steps?

Any person who is worried about their safety at home – or the safety of someone else – can call Safe Steps.

Safe Steps supports people of any age, gender, sexuality, ability or immigration status.

What can Safe Steps do for me?

We provide family violence information and support, safety planning and risk assessment, and access to crisis accommodation.

We can provide financial and material aid, pet safety support and court advocacy, as well as support to people with a disability through our Disability Family Violence Crisis Response Initiative.

What happens when I call Safe Steps?

You will first hear a short, recorded message that explains:

  • all calls are recorded
  • if you are in immediate danger please call Triple Zero (000)
  • this call will be answered by a Family Violence Crisis Specialist
  • how to get an interpreter for this call.

Your call will then be answered by a Family Violence Crisis Specialist.

You can also choose to leave a voice mail message and we will call you back.

Our crisis line can get busy, but please know we will answer your call.
