Safe Steps welcomes the Albanese Government’s decision to increase funding for 1800RESPECT by 40 per cent.

1800RESPECT is Australia’s national domestic, family and sexual violence counselling, information and support service. It provides free and confidential support, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This significant investment reflects 1800RESPECT’s increasing demand. Since its inception in 2010, contacts have increased by more than 3,000 per cent. Last year, 1800RESPECT received over 342,000 calls, video calls, online chats and text messages from Australians seeking help and support.

Safe Steps delivers part of 1800RESPECT, and thanks Minister Tanya Plibersek, Minister Katy Gallagher, and Assistant Minister Ged Kearney for their leadership, and for prioritising help seeking, safety and recovery for victim-survivors.

This funding boost will help ensure more Australians experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence can more easily access the critical, trauma-informed support and services they need.
